080: Least Impressive. Ending. Ever.
James Bomb: Part XII
Normally, a car chase such as this would feature quite a few vehicles, half an hour of rampaging destruction, many pretty explosions, some witty dialogue, and the untimely demise of several million dollars worth of stunt car and background. Unfortunately, you have to imagine it for this strip, which is about as unimpressive as one can get (at least, in terms of car chases).
Hexakitty's car is, unsurprisingly, a vintage Bug, cream-white. Dr. Bad's vehicle is Ferrari F430. And you have to wonder: For buying cars that cost upwards of $400,000, the bad guys generally do not tend to do the little things that matter--like, you know, bulletproof glass, Kevlar tires, ejector seat, and so forth. They just get a really awesome car with several fatal weaknesses. Not that it matters in this strip, of course; I mean, if Bomb is good enough to push the Bug at speeds fast enough to catch a latest-generation Ferrari supercar with 0-60 times of about 3.5 seconds), well, then Dr. Bad didn't stand much of a chance anyway.
For the record, I do not like how panels 4 and 5 turned out, in terms of Bomb holding the taser. Something is off about his grip. Meh. Also, the E.P.D. is not visible; this is intentional. The MacGuffin of the story tends to lose all its relevance; it does so here as well, just to a higher degree. |
