Deep breath. We just went meta- again.

First things first. Thanks to thread, it became clear that the BB arc was not working out. I had somewhat of an impression of that already, but was going to continue out of a combination of stubbornness and uncertainty. After reading that thread, I was prompted to do some thinking about the arc. My conclusion was fairly simple: it would not work. Not necessarily through any fault of my own--though I could have handled it better--but rather because the story can be either chopped up, consistent, or humorous; pick two.

And, to be fair, I did not really know where I was going. Sure, I know the plot of the musical well; I can quote dialogue by the page. But there simply are no logical divisions. The plot is essentially this: Woman has twins, can't afford to keep them. Gives one away; time passes. The two twins meet up randomly years later, and fall in love with the same girl. One twin becomes a notable public figure, the other becomes depressed. Through a series of dramatic events, the depressed twin shoots the politician, and is then shot by the police. Only then, on their deathbeds, are the twins informed that they are twins.

Only now is it painfully obvious that there is no way to make large portions of that funny without destroying the meaning of the work as a whole. I toyed with the idea of keeping it as a pure drama, but that would require a lot of strips, because I would then need to include far more than I would have wanted to.

Back to the strip.

In this scene, the rich twin declares his love for the woman they both love, and learns that his brother married her already, and she is pregnant. Dissatisfied with the drama the director bursts in and opens up a can of whoop-ass.
