There are a lot of reasons to take a class. Genuinely wanting to get something from it is generally high on the list, followed by "distribution requirement" and "major requirement," along with possibly "it looked interesting."

As any student knows, you rarely (if ever) actually *admit* to the professor that you only took the course because it looked interesting, because that prejudices the instructor that you don't have any intrinsic care for the material, and are probably likely to not care. In other words, that admission is basically like saying you didn't even bother to read the course description, or did so only superficially.

Declaring that the only reason you're there is because you're a freshman who likes wine and therefore was attracted to the mention of said alcoholic beverage in the course title is the academic equivalent of shooting oneself in the foot with an explosive shell.
